Abstract
Usually, organic synthetic dyes are used to color hair. It is controversial that dyeing hair may cause environmental problems and concerns on its harmfulness are arising. A study was performed on hair coloring with Hwangtoh and iris extract, which is eco-friendly and not harmful to the human body. First of all, color level of KS A 0066, and color fastness to washing, light, rubbing and perspiration were examined. XRF and XRD were used to analyze elements and minerals of Hwangtoh, respectively. Elements on the surface of dyeing hair with Hwangtoh were analyzed with EDS, and SEM was used to observe the Hwangtoh's surface. As the results, tannin in iris reacted with transition metals in Hwangtoh to make an insoluble mixed dye, and the dyeability was excellent in the process of pre-mordanting.
