Abstract
Preliminary survey of periphyton community structure and chemical characteristics have been carried out the down-stream watershed of the Doam-dam during the period from May, 2008 to April, 2009. A total of 85 taxa of periphytons including diatom, green algae, cyanobacteria and flagellates, were identified. Among them, the dominant species were Achnanthes minutissima, Cymbella ventricosa, Melosira varians, Navicula sp. (diatom),Scenedesmus acutus f. costulatus, Scenedesmus sp., Stigeoclonium sp., Ulothrix sp. (green algae), Merismopedia sp., Oscillatoria tenuis (cyanobacteria) in the upstream watershed of the Southern Han River. The standing crops of the periphyton community ranged between 10 cells·mm-2 at St. M17 in August, 2008 and 15,833 cells·mm-2 at St. B1 in May, 2008. The diversity index, evenness index, and dominant index were ranged from 0.79 to 2.78, 0.28 to 0.89, and 0.08 to 0.69, respectively. Investigation area was meso-saprobity status by using dominant species, but it seems to be changed to eutrophication stream because primary dominant species were distributed in the polluted area for the watershed.
Key Words: periphyton, physico-chemical, diatom, dominant species, cluster analysis, saprobic index
